Notes: To promote Handmade Films latest release "Shanghai Surprise", George hired Tyne Tees Television to put together a TV special entitled "Handmade in Hong Kong".
The film, starring husband and wife duo Madonna & Sean Penn, was shot in England as well as Hong Kong, Macau and Portugal.
The special is narrated by Paula Yates. George visited the set in Hong Kong in early February and was interviewed there by Paula Yates for the documentary.
Other footage, shot back in England, includes bits of the infamous George and Madonna press conference
from early March and footage of George recording the songs "Shanghai Surprise" (with Vicki Brown) & "Someplace Else"
plus an interview at his Friar Park studio in July as well as George filming his cameo as a nightclub singer that was shot in late February at Shepperton Studios.
A promo video was even made for the title track using the same recording studio footage shot for the "Handmade in Hong Kong" doco although only a few very rare promotional 7” vinyl singles were ever made.
This TV special was obviously made to help promote the film but it ultimately didn`t help at all as the film was panned by all the critics around the globe and ended up being a major flop.
The three musical numbers from George were also included as promos on "The Dark Horse Years" DVD box set in 2004.
